[01] Papandreou in India to attend Congress Party con'f
Main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou arrived here over the
weekend, in his capacity as president of the Socialist International,
to attend sessions of the ruling India National Congress Party's
conference, which begins on Monday.
Papandreou is scheduled to meet with Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi
for talks that will include membership of the long-time Indian party in
the SI.
Among others, Papandreou has reportedly backed India's request to gain
a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
