  • [01] Orfanos meets Special Olympics Evaluation team

    The Evaluation Committee of the files of the candidacies of the countries which want to host the 2011 World Summer Special Olympics met in Athens on Tuesday with Deputy Culture Minister responsible for Sport, George Orfanos.

    The members of the committee were accompanied by Special Olympics Greece president Ioanna Despotopoulou. Taking part at the meeting from the Greek side were Sports Secretary-General Stavros Douvis and Technical Support Director-General Thomas Stamou.

    "I wish to express the supoport of the Greek state, of the government, in the undertaking of major events. Particularly in the field of the Special Olympics, the necessity for us to win such a great hosting, is aimed at our society, from tolerance to situations, such as mental deficiency, to become a society of participation and support. And we believe that we can achieve this," Orfanos said.
