[01] Papandreou criticises government
Main opposition Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) leader George
Papandreou on Wednesday evening criticised the government for the "high
cost of living and for the indifference of this government for the
average Greek citizen".
In a short address at the presentation of the election slate by
Athens-Piraeus Supra-Prefect Fofi Gennimata, along with Athens
candidate prefect Yiannis Sgouros and Piraeus candidate prefect Yiannis
Michas, Papandreou said: "Today we are seeing around us an old-party
conception, a clientele conception which is creating hotbeds of
corruption and not a society of values."
"We want a society of values that will not offer privileges and
protection for the few and for "our friends", but equal rights to all.
Proper education is a right for all, proper health is a right for all,
a dignified pension is a right for all, greenery, the quality of life
and public health, for which the supraprefecture is struggling, is a
right for all," The PASOK leader added.
Presenting her election slate "Supra-Prefecture of Citizens" and the
candidate prefectural councillors, Gennimata appeared certain of
victory of her election slate and particularly optimistic on the
outcome of the local government elections on October 15, stressing that
"we will proceed again together, to renew our committments."
