[01] Inner Cabinet meeting on interior, public order ministries' issues
The Inner Cabinet convened Tuesday, chaired by prime minister Costas
Karamanlis, to discuss issues falling under the competence of the
interior ministry and the public order ministry, regarding preparations
for the coming winter.
Meanwhile, Karamanlis conferred Monday with interior, public
administration and decentralisation minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos, who
told reporters after the meeting that the government's emblem was
"everything in the light, and zero tolerance to corruption".
Replying to press questions after the meeting on whether additional
measures would be taken to combat corruption and shield the state,
Pavlopoulos said it was important that inspections be intensified,
adding that the citizens had confidence in the state and institutions
such as the Public Administration Inspectors Corps and were submitting
complaints.
He stressed the importance of the citizens' contribution by notifying
the authorities of incidents of corruption, adding that the
contribution of the press was also welcome in uncovering such
phenomena.
Pavlopoulos said he and the prime minister discussed matters concerning
the preparation for next months municipal and prefectural elections,
noting the need for informing the citizens on their participation, but
also on procedural matters concerning the holding of the local
government elections.
The elections, he said, were an important event, and must be conducted
in an impeccable manner.
