[01] Papandreou: Gov't policy adding to citizens' insecurity
Main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou on Wednesday criticised
the government, saying its policy created insecurity among the
citizens, during an address at the second day of a two-day meeting of
his party's Parliamentary group coordinating body.
Papandreou, who on Wednesday marked the second anniversary of his
assumption of PASOK's leadership, said the government of Prime Minister
Costas Karamanlis was perpetuating the insecurity of the Greek
citizens; was not protecting their incomes and democratic rights, and
was not ensuring the proper and smooth operation of the country's
institutions.
Turning to the ongoing phone-tapping furor, Papandreou cited what he
described as "inconsistencies" in the statements made by the ministers
during a meeting of Parliament's Institutions and Transparency
committee.
PASOK, he said, demanded that the entire truth be revealed, adding
that, beyond the legal aspects of the case, there were also immense
political responsibilities for the prime minister as well as the
relevant ministers.
