[01] Gov't on draft law for media concentration
Government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos on Friday reminded
reporters at his regular press briefing that Monday marks the deadline
for tabling proposals ahead of closely watched discussions aimed at
developing a draft law for media concentration as well as broadcast
licensing.
Roussopoulos added that the issue is amongst the first where citizens
were asked by the government to directly table their proposals via the
Internet, whereas Monday marks the beginning of discussions amongst
political parties.
"Talks will continue with sector representatives in the third phase,
while Parliament will be briefed in the fourth phase so that proposals
are codified ahead of a draft law that will put an end to the chaotic
mass media field," Roussopoulos said.
Finally, he cited his view that the Athens Journalists' Union (ESHEA),
the largest and most influential journalists' guild in the country,
should table its proposals on the matter.
