[01] Two arrested in Thessaloniki carrying 100 kilos hashish
Two men were arrested in northern Greece on Wednesday after they were
caught carrying roughtly 100 kilos of hashish concealed in the car they
were driving. The arrest was made by police in Veria, who were acting
on a tip-off that a drug-trafficking ring was bringing large quantities
of illegal drugs into Greece, selling them mainly in the prefectures of
Larissa and Imathia.
The two men, a 26-year-old Albanian national and a 30-year-old Greek,
were caught in the early hours of the morning after a stakeout at a
junction of the Egnatia Highway with the Siatista-Kastoria national
road.
The car contained 95,492 kilos of hashish divided up into 105 packages,
and was apparently destined for Larissa. The two men were led before a
public prosecutor and the investigation to uncover and arrest the other
members of the gang is continuing.
