[01] Veropoulos plows 25mln euros into FYROM hyper-market, shopping
mall
Supermarket chain Veropoulos SA said on Thursday that it would invest
25 million euros in construction of a hypermarket and shopping mall in
Skopje, capital of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).
Earlier this week, Veropoulos was named winner of a tender for sale of
the plot of land where the facilities will be built. The purchase price
for the 10,772-square metre site was 510 euros per square metre,
including an option for expansion to 13,000 square metres.
The company, which is to build a 20,000-square metre shopping mall
including a 5,000-square metre hypermarket, had won an past tender for
the site that was annulled due to procedural irregularities. The
project is anticipated to create at least 210 jobs.
Operating under the brandname Vero, the firm operates seven outlets in
FYROM with an eighth currently under construction due for completion in
March 2006, ranking as the neighbouring country's largest supermarket
chain.
