[01] President George W. Bush refers to 'strategic cooperation' while
welcoming Greek Premier Caramanlis
U.S. President George W. Bush, welcoming Greek Prime Minister Costas
Karamanlis at the White House on Friday, referred to the beginning of a
"strategic cooperation" between Greece and the United States.
The U.S. President spoke of close cooperation between the two
countries, for the promotion of freedom in the Middle East, as well as
the Balkans, while also making special reference to the successful
holding of the Athens Olympic Games last year.
"I was certain that you would make it and for this reason I sent my
family," the U.S. president told Karamanlis, adding that "you kept your
promise."
President Bush also took the opportunity to wish Karamanlis well for
his name day, which he had also done last year, since their first
meeting at the White House had taken place on the same day, that is on
May 20, a day before the prime minister's name day.
