    Denmark's Rasmus Henning and Australian athlete Michelle Jones were the winners of the men's and women's triathlon world cup in Athens on Saturday with times of 1:52:41.93 and 2:06:47.02, respectively.

    The men's race was particularly close, with Henning declared the winner in the photo finish with a lead of just 0.03 seconds.

    The ITU World Cup also doubled as a test event for the triathlon during the Athens Olympics in August. The athletes taking part described the route as challenging and praised the organisers on a job well done overall, though some noted the need for a feeding point during the cycling route and others said they would have liked to have seen more spectators.

    [02] Local authority staff back to work on Monday

    Striking local authority workers throughout the country will be back at work on Monday after their union federation POE-OTA was unable to pass a motion to continue strike action during a general assembly on Saturday.

    The assembly was inquorate because trade unionists affiliated to ruling PASOK and main opposition New Democracy failed to turn up.

    Cloudy weather with possible showers is forecast in the north on Sunday, scattered cloud in the rest of the country, later growing heavier in the west. Winds north, northwesterly, light to moderate, gusty in the western and southern seas and shifting to southerly later in the day. In the north, temperatures will range from 13C to 20C; in the Ionian and mainland from 14C to 25C; and in the Aegean from 17C to 26C. Temperatures in Athens between 18C and 25C; and in Thessaloniki from 14C to 20C.
