[03] Strong quake rocks western Greece

    14/08/2003 11:53:36

Damages, cracks in roadways and on some buildings, were mostly concentrated in the western part of the Ionian island of Lefkada late Thursday morning following a strong earthquake in the region earlier in the day.

A 6.4 on the Richter scale tremor was recorded at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday morning, centred in a sea region some 30 kilometres west of the island. Lefkada, part of the Ionian chain of isles, lies just off the western coast of continental Greece.
