    Equities were on a rocky course at the opening of trading Monday on the Athens Stock Exchange, as jittery investors held back and took their cue from unstable foreign markets.

    The general share price index was marginally down 0.1 per cent quarter of an hour into the session, standing at 2,173.92 points, with turnover at 4.3 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were mostly losing ground, with the biggest losses in Textiles, down 1.6 per cent, and the biggest gains in Retail Trade, up 0.16 per cent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.28 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.19 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was marginally down 0.05 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 69 were up, 84 were down and 43 were unchanged.

    Mostly sunny throughout Greece on Sunday, with only a chance rain clouds over the mainland heading into the afternoon. Winds out of the north, moderate to strong in the Aegean. Temperatures between 17C to 30C in the north; 18C to 32C in the rest of the mainland, and 22C to 30C on the islands. Sunny in Athens, 21C to 32C; same in Thessaloniki, 19C to 30C.
