    Equities were holding steady at the opening of trading Friday on the Athens Stock Exchange, as cautious investors kept a watchful eye on bank stock after its sharp rise in previous sessions.

    The general share price index was marginally down 0.09 per cent, standing at 2,189.53 points half an hour into the session. Turnover was 19.04 million euros, of which 10.43 million euros concerned block trades agreed in advance.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.28 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.20 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was up 0.10 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 92 were up, 47 were down and 48 were unchanged.

    Scattered cloud is forecast in all parts of the country, building up on the mainland towards evening. The north may see isolated storms. Winds variable, light to moderate, turning strong in the southeastern Aegean. In the north, temperatures will range from 17C to 30C; in the Ionian and on the rest of the mainland from 18C to 33C; and in the Aegean islands from 20C to 31C. Temperatures in Athens between 21C and 32C; and in Thessaloniki between 19C and 30C.
