[01] Police bring Giotopoulos' wife in for new round of questioning

The wife of suspected November 17 leader Alexandros Giotopoulos, 48-year-old French national Marie-Therese Peynaud, was called in for questioning for a second time by the anti-terrorism squad on Saturday morning.

The woman was still being interrogated until well after noon, though police did not say whether she would then be released or kept in custody.

[02] UK producer says Britons support return of Parthenon Marbles

NEW YORK (ANA - M. Georgiadou) - This would be a favourable time for a Greek-UK agreement to transfer the Parthenon Marbles to Greece since UK public opinion and UK politicians were in favour of their return, noted British producer and commentator Willian Stewart told an international conference to discuss the ancient sculptures in New York on Friday.

The conference was held as part of the 80th annual American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) Supreme Convention, which was held here for the first time in 34 years in a show of support of the city and the victims of the September 11 terror attack.

[03] 'Iphigenia in Aulis' at ancient theatres of Thassos and Philippi

The National Theatre Company is to perform Euripides' classical ancient Greek drama ''Iphigenia in Aulis'' at the ancient theatre at Phillipi on Saturday night, and on Wednesday night at the ancient theatre on the island of Thassos.

The plays form part of this year's Philippi-Thassos festivals, while both performances will begin at 21:30.

[04] Two more arrested in November 17 case

Greek police on Saturday made two more arrests in connection with the ongoing November 17 investigation, with two suspected members of the urban guerrilla group brought in by the anti-terrorist squad from the countryside.

The two men, who have not been identified, are to be transported to Athens by an army helicopter, guarded by special forces police.

[05] Giotopoulos, accused as N17 leader, hires defence lawyer

Alexandros Giotopoulos, currently being held by police as the suspected leader of the terrorist organisation November 17, has asjed the lawyer Yiannis Rahiotis to defend him, sources said on Saturday.

Rahiotis has spoken with the 58-year-old Giotopoulos, who he says continues to deny all involvement in the urban guerrilla group, though other suspected members have named him as the group's leader.

Meanwhile, public prosecutor Ioannis Diotis has apparently resumed taking testimony from the first suspected member of the group captured by police, Savvas Xiros.

Xiros is currently in hospital recovering from severe injuries to his eyes and hand, incurred in a botched bomb attack that led to his capture.

The prosecutor had stopped taking testimony from Savvas Xiros a week ago so that he could undergo an eye operation.

Showers are forecast in central and northern Greece on Sunday, with possible isolated storms in eastern Macedonia and Thrace from the afternoon. The rest of the country will be hot and sunny. Winds north-northwesterly, moderate, turning strong over the sea and very strong in the northeast from the afternoon. In the northern mainland temperatures will range from 18C to 33C; on the rest of the mainland from 21C to 35C; and in the Aegean islands from 23C to 32C. Temperatures in Athens between 24C and 35C; and in Thessaloniki from 23C to 33C.

Showers and isolated storms are forecast from early evening in Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly, which will see scattered cloud earlier in the day. The rest of the country will be hot and sunny. Storms are likely on high ground on the mainland. Winds west-northwesterly, light to moderate, turning strong in parts of the west and south. In the west and north, temperatures will range from 20C to 34C; on the rest of the mainland from 22C to 36C; and in the Aegean islands from 25C to 33C. Temperatures in Athens between 25C and 36C; and in Thessaloniki from 25C to 33C.
