  • [01] Grigoris Snacks to launch Chinese takeaway chain

    Grigoris Snacks, which is quoted on the Athens bourse, is to open a chain of Chinese takeaway food outlets, the parent company's managing director, Vlassis Georgatos, said on Monday.

    The first pilot store has opened in Carrefour, a French-owned hypermarket near Piraeus. Two more stores in the Work 88 chain developed by Asian Restaurants SA are to open in Athens shortly, Georgatos told reporters.

    Asian Restaurants is a joint venture between Grigoris Snacks and Golden Phoenix, an Asian restaurant chain.

    Five stores are planned for 2002, Georgatos added.

    [02] Sexform to export lingerie to France

    Sexform, a lingerie manufacturer quoted on the Athens bourse, is to launch exports to France under a contract with ETAM, a French distributor and retailer, the Greek firm said in a statement on Monday.

    The company has also recently forged an agreement with Monoprix, a French chain store, the statement said.

    The latest deals, in the wake of similar contracts in the UK, are part of Sexform's policy of boosting exports, it added.

    [04] Condolences book for Princess Margaret opened

    Following the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, a condolences book has been opened at the British Ambassador's residence at 2, Loukianou Street, in Athens.

    The book will remain open from Monday, February 11 until Friday, February 15 between the hours of 10:00-13:00.

    Sunshine is forecast in most parts of the country, with showers in Crete and the Dodecanese islands in the morning. Winds north-northwesterly, moderate to gale force. In the north, temperatures will range from 0C to 11C; in the west from 3C to 16C; and in the rest of Greece from 5C to 14C. Mostly sunny in Athens, with temperatures between 6C and 14C. Same in Thessaloniki with temperatures from 4C to 11C.

    Equity prices ended the first trading session of the week lower on the Athens Stock Exchange, with a wave of profit taking reversing an initial advance of prices late in the session.

    The general index ended 0.64 percent lower at 2,511.18 points, with turnover a disappointing low Dr 24.2 billion, or 71 million euros.

    The Construction and Telecoms sectors suffered the heaviest percentage losses (1.14 percent and 1.14 percent, respectively). The Food-Beverage and IT sectors were the only to score gains (0.18 percent and 0.02 percent).

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavy traded stocks ended 0.46 percent lower, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index fell 0.83 percent and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index eased 0.78 percent.

    Broadly, decliners led advancers by 228 to 85 with another 50 issues unchanged.
