    07/12/2001 11:10:15

Two hooded gunmen held up an Alpha Bank branch outside Hania, on the island of Crete, early Friday and made away with an estimated 35 million drachma, police said.

They said the two hooded men entered the Alpha branch in Platania, Hania at 8:10 a.m. and, immobilising customers and employees at gunpoint, grabbed 35 million drachma before speeding away on a motorcycle, which police believe was stolen.

Eyewitnesses said that at the time of the hold-up there were one customer, two employees and the branch manager inside the bank. They said the robbers locked up the manager one of the employees in a separate room and forced the remaining teller to hand over the money.
