    Equities were rising vigorously at the opening of trade Monday on the Athens Stock Exchange, fuelled by buyer interest in high-cap paper and banking stock. The general index jumped 1.18 percent to 2,776.34 points at 10:20 am, with turnover at 13.2 million euro.

    Individual sector indices were all moving up with the exception of insurance, which was down 0.12 percent. The biggest gains were for construction, up 1.54 percent, followed by publishing, up 1.47 percent. The banking index was up 1.25 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.17 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.05 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SMALLCAP index was up 1.02 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 251 were up, 25 were down and 33 were unchanged.
