  • [01] Marble sculptures - Thassos symposium

    An international sculpture symposium on the verdant northern Greek island of Thassos is expected to bring together several noted artists over the next 20 days to work with the distinct white marble quarried in the region.

    All of the works will subsequently remain on Thassos, where an academy of sculpture is set to open in the near future.

    The entire event is sponsored by the Thassos and Kavala marble producers' association and the Eastern Macedonia-Thrace regional district along with the Greek embassy in The Hague.

    Dutch artists Da Van Daalen and Eppe De Haan, as well as Belgians Christian Le Ponce and Christine Joine will be joined by four Greek sculptors.

    Entrance to the public at the worksite is free, while the artists begin work on Monday at the Skala Kallirahi site.

    [02] Greek state fertilizer company to go public

    The state owned and operated chemical fertilizer company begun the process to be listed in the Athens Stock exchange, following its merger with the Chemical Industries of Northern Greece, it was announced on Sunday.

    The Phosphate Fertilizer Industry SA retains its name after the merger and will issue 27,359,000 shares with a nominal price of 1,000 drachmas.

    The combined turnover of the two merged companies stands at 80 billion drachmas.

    Athenians begun their return to the city on Sunday afternoon and 12 people were killed, while another 178 were injured in 109 accidents throughout the country, despite strict measures undertaken by highway patrol officers.

    Sunshine is forecast in all parts of the country on Monday with scattered cloud on the mainland from evening that may lead to storms or showers, mainly on high ground. Winds northerly, light, turning strong over the Aegean. On the mainland and in the Ionian, temperatures will range from 18C to 36C; and in the Aegean islands from 22C to 33C. In Athens, the weather will be sunny, with temperatures between 24C and 35C. Scattered cloud in Thessaloniki, with a storm likely from evening. Temperatures from 23C to 34C.
