A man in Thessaloniki was attacked on Thursday for refusing to turn off his stereo by an enraged neighbour who claimed to be in mourning for a deceased relative.

According to Michalis Baskintzis, 35, an unknown neighbour came to his house on Wednesday night during a name-day party, and asked him to turn off the music because he was mourning a relative in the building opposite.

Baskintzis refused to turn the music off but promised to turn down the volume, whereupon the other man attacked him, striking him on the face and hands, stormed into the apartment and damaged Baskintzis' stereo and speakers.

The Ano Polis police station is making an inquiry.
