    Paragraph 3, line 3, replace "FTSE/ASE SMALLCAP index was down 1.82 percent" with the corrected "FTSE/ASE SMALLCAP index was up 1.82 percent".

    Corrected version follows:

    Equities surged upwards at the opening of trade Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, with the general index up 2.35 percent at 2,672.58 points and turnover at 12.6 million euro.

    Individual sector indices were all moving up, with the biggest gains for investments, up 4.12 per cent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 2.36 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 2.0 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SMALLCAP index was up 1.82 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 259 were up, 18 were down and 101 were unchanged.
