Greece is in constant contact with the government of the Former
Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) regarding the crisis in that
country, Prime Minister Costas Simitis told PASOK's central committee
on Saturday, as he took the stand to make the final speech at the party
organ's meeting.
Reiterating Athens' support for the Skopje government, he stressed that
international law had to be implemented and that the UN resolutions for
Kosovo were binding for all.
Simitis said that the borders of Kosovo into other countries had to be
controlled by UN forces, so that extremist elements could not use that
area for incursions into neighbouring countries.
Greece, the prime minister added, condemns the use of force and is
against secessionist tendencies. At the same time, Athens believes that
any differences must be resolved using democratic and political means
and that every effort must be made to this end.
