    VIENNA (D. Dimitrakoudis) - Ecumenichal Patriarch Vartholomeos is to pay an official visit to Hungary from August 18-22 at the invitation of the country's prime minister, Viktor Orban.

    The Patriarch will attend events marking the 1,000 years since the founding of the Hungarian state. He will also visit the historic Greek village of Beloyiannis to celebrate with its inhabitants the 50th anniversary of its establishment.

    Stocks rose in light trade on the Athens Stock Exchange on Friday in the wake of two consecutive declines.

    Trade remained thin, and turnover needed to rise in order for a trend to emerge, analysts said.

    The general index ended 1.84 percent higher at 3,743.29 points with turnover at 66 billion drachmas.
