    A moderate earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale rocked the western port city of Patras Wednesday, causing some panic but there were no immediate reports of damage.

    The earthquake was registered at 11:58 a.m., with its epicentre in the sea region between Rio and Antirio and at a depth of five kilometres.

    Local authorities said the tremor was felt in the northern suburbs of Patras and the wider region to Nafpaktos.

    The Bank of Greece on Wednesday slashed its key intervention rates by up to 0.75 percentage point, bringing the country closer to the euro zone.
