Greek, Turkish officials sit down to talks

Dialogue got underway in Ankara today between senior foreign ministry officials from Greece and Turkey in a bid to smooth over the two neighbouring countries' difficulties. The dialogue, which was agreed on early this month between Greek and Turkish foreign ministers George Papandreou and Ismail Cem, respectively, is being held at the Turkish foreign ministry and will focus on bilateral cooperation in the fields of commerce, environmental protection and tourism. According to an ANA dispatch from Ankara, this morning's discussion will focus on organising the dialogue on matters concerining trade cooperation between the two countries, while similar consultations will take place this afternoon on cooperation in the sectors of tourism and protection of the environment.

He briefed Kaklamanis on his talks during his two- day visit in Italy and on the course of talks for Cyprus' accession to the European Union.
