15 thousand police officers will be stationed to guard the athletes as well as international groups coming to participate in the Games. The Greek capitol is expecting 200 foreign groups. Hidden cameras are scheduled to be installed all over the greek capitol.

Ioannis Georga-kOpoulos, chief of police in Attica, explains that,"special attention will be shown for countries which may have conflicts with other countries, in the event that such a problem may arise.

AIRCRAFT

A Greek air force pilot was reported missing Monday after his fighter jet crashed off the coast of Skiros in the northwestern Aegean.

The missing pilot, First Lieutenant IoakEEm Pantelakis had clocked in more than 400 hours of flying time, which spoke of his experience, in the Mirage 2000. He was participating in a series of exercises with another aircraft when the crash occurred.

Weather conditions in the area were reportedly good, with the aircraft flying at just one thousand 5 hundred feet over the sea.

Fears were expressed late Monday that the pilot didn't have time to use the ejector seat.

Air and naval forces searching the area for Pantelakis reported some wreckage 25 miles north of the island. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the causes of the crash.

DOLLAR

The continuing rise of the American dollar has the Greek government worried.

The dollar is climbing in Europe with nothing on the immediate horizon that is likely to stop it. In response to the upward currency, the Ministry of economy will hold a meeting of it's officials on Tuesday.

The overall exchange rate has experienced a steady climb, which went from 254 drachmas to the dollar earlier this year to a reported 291 drachmas to the dollar expected on Tuesday.

Sources say the government is considering implementing a series of measures to help keep the cost-of-living index on a normal level. A proposed plan is to reduce a special tax imposed on oil used to heat houses in the fall, as the price will largely influence the cost of living index.

The government is also toying over the idea of establishing a so-called, "competition committee", which will examine and control unjustified increases in the prices of foodstuffs and products of large consumption.

CUSTOMS

Evros customs officials were awarded the highest distinction of honour from the Greek State this past weekend.

The gold cross of the Order of Honor was presented to the Evros customs chief, Stavros Tzi-Oras in honor of their service in apprehending and disbanding illegal drug dealers.

When asked about service in the line of duty, Tzi-Oras proudly replied, "We've fought against criminals, dangerous people for the last 20 years".

Apostolos FotiAdis, general secretary for the ministry of economy said, "We believe that this award isn't an honour for only Stavros TziOras and the Evros custom officials, but it's an honour for the entire region of Evros and its customs office".

The president and the minister of economy chose to honour Evros for its excellent work in facing drug dealers this year.

In her honour Antenna has compiled selected footage of her screen life, where her sensitivity and strength of character embodied a persona so special she left her audiences yearning for more.

ANDRIANOPOULOS

Romance was in the air this past weekend. Andreas AndrianO-poulos, former minister of industry in the previous New Democracy government chose his favorite island Hydra, in which to say his vows.

Andrianopoulos took his beloved, Rena DrematA to be his wife in a civil ceremony, married by the mayor of Hydra, Nikos AnastO-poulos.

The civil service will be followed in September by a religious ceremony to take place in London.

AndrianOpoulos left New Democracy after Miltiades Evert took over at the helm. Since then, he has lived a quiet life, far from the public eye.

Some kilometers from Hydra, in the region of Langadia located in the Peloponese, a folklore dance competition was taking place. The ministers of justice, health and the press were seen watching the competition which attracted participants from all over the peloponese.

Justice minister Evangelos YiannO-poulos and Health minister Kostas GEE- tonas joined in the spirit of the occasion and gave the folklore dances a try.

Government spokesman and press minister Dimitris Reppas who also attended the event, preferred not to show his ...dance abilities!

ANTENNA/BOOKS

Over the past year Antenna has embarked on a special campaign bringing a wide variety of Greek books to those in need. Originally, the campaign focused on areas throughout the country, but now is expanding outside Greece's borders.

It started with Antenna requesting from its viewers to send into the station new and used books. In a very giving gesture, Antenna received over 2000 books. In return, the station decided to distribute the books where they would be of the greatest service. The choice was undeniably New York City.

In a special effort at the initiative of Antenna with the combined help of Olympic airways, the unique cultural mission came to fruition.

On Monday, a planeload of Greek Books were sent to thousands of Greek children living in the New York area.

Speaking candidly about the campaign, Antenna's Public Relations director Lola Daifa said,"Greek children in the US have everything but Greek books. So, we send them the books with all our love".

Olympic Airways a strong supporter of the book campaign has vowed to help Antenna found or support Greek libraries all over the world. Dimitris DiamandEEs, transport of goods manager at Olympic Airways, says, "Antenna's effort is praiseworthy. Olympic Airways will always stand by any cultural or humanitarian effort". Olympic airways transferred the books to New York free of charge. Adding that, "We'll do the same for any other place in the world and for any other similar effort", DiamandEEs added.

Antenna's special cultural campaign to New York was only the beginning.

Daifa says, "We are also planning on visiting the remote islands of Greece. Our message to the residents on these islands is that they're not alone. Antenna IS there, remembers them, loves them and proves its love for them".

In the recent past, Antenna has delivered numerous books to Greeks living in isolated towns and villages in northern Greece. It also recently sent truckloads of books to Greek troops in southern Albania, who were deployed as part of the multinational peacekeeping force.
