FARMERS
As the standoff between the farmers and the government wears on, tempers
are becoming more and more frayed.
SEAMEN
As we heard there, truck drivers are exasperated. They're also frustrated
by a seamens' strike that's preventing them from getting out of the country,
even if they manage to make it to the port.
SIMITIS
Prime minister Kostas Simitis told the nation's president that he's pleased
with the way things went for Greece at last weekend's European Union
summit.
PERU
The government of Peru is trying to negotiate the release of several
hundred foreign diplomats being held hostage in the Japanese embassy in
Lima.
TURKEY WOLVES
The Turkish right-wing extremist organisation the "Grey Wolves" is well-
known to Greeks and Cypriots. There have been reports that the Wolves have
set Greek forests on fire; and that they were among those who attacked
peaceful Greek-Cypriot protestors in Cyprus's neutral zone.
ALIKI THEATRE
The lights will soon be turned back on at the theatre started by late
actress Aliki Vouyouklaki. The popular star's son is raising the curtain at
the Athens theatre with a series of performances, the first on Christmas
day.
CULTURE
The Hilton Hotel in Athens is ALSO a cultural centre these days. "Art at
the Hilton" is the title of a series of events being hosted there.
BOOKS
More in a series of books containing accounts of the personal lives of well-
known Greek artists and writers are out.
