We gave a hard battle," SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras stated on Sunday evening."The Greek people gave us a clear four-year mandate to fight. In the last seven months we fought with assymetrical powers. SYRIZA proved that it is too hard to die. From tomorrow we are done with the old," Tsipras said. He thanked Independent Greeks (ANEL) leader Panos Kammenos clarifying that they will continue to co-govern. "From tomorrow we will work hard for a Greece of equality and progress in order to have a more powerful and fairer Greece," Tsipras underlined. "We have difficulties ahead of us, but also solid ground. We have perspective. Recovery will come through a lot of work, through a plan to return to growth," Tsipras said. "The mandate that the Greek people gave to us is a mandate to put an halt to corruption that ruled the country for so many years. They gave us a second and important chance to end that regime. As of tomorrow, we will put the old regime behind," he added. [03] EU leaders congratulate TsiprasGreek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, French President Francois Hollande, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann congratulated SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras over his victory in the national elections.The head of Podemos Pablo Iglesias also congratulated Tsipras on winning the elections. "The Greeks have clearly said whom they want for Prime Minister. Congratulations my friend!" Iglesias posted on Twitter. [04] EU Parliament head Schulz congratulates TsiprasEuropean Parliament President Martin Schulz congratulated SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras on his victory in the elections."I've just congratulated @tsipras_eu for #Syriza victory in #Greece elections. Now a solid government ready to deliver is needed quickly," he posted on Twitter. [05] French President Hollande welcomes Tsipras' victory; to visit Athens in the near futureFrench President Francois Hollande on Sunday welcomed the significant success of SYRIZA and its leader Alexis Tsipras adding that it is an important message for European left."Greece will enjoy a period of stability with a clear parliamentary majority," Hollande said and added that he will certainly visit Athens in the following weeks. [06] SYRIZA leader Tsipras has phone contact with ANEL leader KammenosSYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras had a phone contact with Independent Greeks (ANEL) leader Panos Kammenos on the formation of government, according to sources.Meanwhile, Tsipras had also contacts with party officials while the political secretariat and the central committee are likely to meet on Monday. [07] 'A new effort to start as of tomorrow,' ANEL leader Kammenos says"Independent Greeks (ANEL) will be the guarantors of the next day," its leader Panos Kammenos said on Sunday."We proceed with a new government aiming at Greece's exit from the crisis," he stated. [08] ND leader Meimarakis: SYRIZA is the winner; we remain a pillar of stabilityNew Democracy gave a civilised battle and fought with dignity, stated ND leader Evangelos Meimarakis upon his arrival to the party headquarters on Sunday evening.He said that "SYRIZA seems to be the winner and I congratulate it for that. In January some believed that we would be finished and that they had given us that final stroke. We did not dissolve, we remained a pillar of stability," he stressed. Asked if the issue of New Democracy leader will be raised, Meimarakis said that "we will discuss it at the right time, the formation of a government comes first." [09] PASOK-DIMAR satisfied over their cooperationContent prevails in the Democratic Group (PASOK-DIMAR) that their cooperation was fruitful and they increased their popularity by two percentage points and their deputies from 13 to 17.The first estimations over the formation of the government is that if the first and the second party will not cooperate then the government's future is pre-determined to die. The Democratic Group will exercise opposition for the just implementation of the memorandum. [10] KKE leader Koutsoumbas on elections resultThe Communist Party (KKE) thanks the hundreds of people that honoured it with their vote in today's elections and those that ignored the coercing dilemmas, overcame their reservations and met with KKE, said Communist party secretary general Dimitris Koutsoumbas adding that KKE will take advantage of its political, electoral and parliamentary power in the "huge effort that we must do in the following period for the total rallying and strengthening of the working-classes movement towards the construction of a huge social and popular alliance."[11] Elections result was an unpleasant surprise for Potami, said party leader TheodorakisPotami leader Stavros Theodorakis said that the national elections' result was an unpleasant surprise for his party and assumed the responsibility for the mistakes.He stressed that in the next days and after the reasons of the result are discussed, the party members will take the final decisions. Theodorakis also pointed at the huge abstention noting that it is something that the political world should take under serious consideration. [12] We lost a battle not the war, Popular Unity leader Lafazanis statesWe lost a battle but the war continues, stated Popular Unity leader Panagiotis Lafazanis adding that the right is on our side and thanked the Greek people that voted Popular Unity as well as the party members.General News [13] Six-year old girl found dead; seven children still missingThe body of a six-year old girl that was among the 8 missing children that were on a dinghy that sank on Sunday off the coasts of Lesvos island was located.The body of a 40-year old woman was also found in the sea region off Lesvos island. Two women were rescued earlier and the number of those rescued reached 24. According to testimonies, the number of Syrians that were on the dinghy was 46.
