The long-term competitiveness of European shipping and related maritime industries in world markets, and the adaptation of the entire seaborne transport system to the challenges of the 21st century are at the heart of this strategy plan.[02] Vers un espace européen de transport maritime sans barriers – EMBARGO 12h30 CETLa Commission européenne a adopté aujourd'hui un plan d'actions destinées mettre en place un espace de transport maritime sans barrières en Europe. Ces actions comprennent plusieurs mesures législatives dont une proposition destinée simplifier les formalités administratives découlant des règles communautaires et des recommandations aux Etats membres pour réduire les charges administratives imposées aux entreprises de transport maritime.[II] Other news - Autres Nouvelles[03] State aid: Commission approves Finnish state guarantee for Kaupthing BankThe European Commission has approved under EC Treaty state aid rules a Finnish state guarantee accompanying a private sector arrangement to the benefit of depositors in the Finnish branch of the insolvent Kaupthing Bank. The measure guarantees the banks who ensured full compensation of Kaupthing's Finnish depositors against legal risks. The Commission found the measure to be in line with its Guidance Communication on state aid to overcome the financial crisis (see <a href="http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/08/1495&format=HTML&aged=0&language=EN&guiLanguage=en">IP/08/1495). In particular, the measure is necessary to preserve confidence in the financial markets and is limited to the minimum necessary to achieve this objective.
