Within the context of the overall new integrated maritime policy and to take up on this challenge, the European Commission today adopted "A European Strategy for Marine and Maritime Research". The Strategy's objective is to overcome fragmentation of the European marine and maritime research landscape by capacity building, increased integration across traditional research sectors and increased cooperation of all actors in this area.[02] Aid Conference: Commission urges donors to make aid more effective to reach Millennium Development GoalsThe Commission calls on donor and developing countries to use development aid more effectively. At the eve of the High Level Ministerial Meeting in Accra/Ghana (2 – 4 September), the Commission urges governments to commit themselves to concrete and ambitious actions. Three years after the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, some progress have been made. In the first quarter of 2008, growth rates were +0.7% in the euro area and +0.6% in the EU.
