  • [01] Assistance to Andean Community: European Commission supports regional economic integration and fight against illicit drugs

Promotion of regional integration plays an important role in EU foreign policy around the globe. The European Commission has allocated almost €10 mio for regional projects of the Andean Community which aim at improving regional economic integration and strengthening the fight against illicit drugs.

[02] Statement of the European Commission on the bomb attack in Istanbul

The European Commission condemns in the strongest possible terms the hideous bomb attack in Istanbul yesterday, which was clearly designed to kill as many people as possible. The European Commission expresses its solidarity with the Turkish people in the fight against terrorism and sends its condolences to the families of the victims.

[03] Four Polish beverages protected as "traditional specialities guaranteed"

The European Commission today added the names of four Polish products, all beverages, to the list of "traditional specialities guaranteed" (TSG). The four names are: Czwórniak, "Dwójniak, Półtorak and Trójniak. TGS are, together with protected geographical indications (PGI) and protected designations of origin (PDO), the cornerstones of the EU agricultural quality policy that aims at promoting production of quality products and supporting rural development. Contrary to PGI and PDO, "traditional specialities guaranteed" do not refer to the origin of the product but highlight the traditional character, either in the composition or means of production. The four names are added to the list of about 20 already existing TSG. For more information on the EU quality policy and to find the list of existing TSG, see at:

[04] Mergers: Commission approves proposed acquisition of EDS by Hewlett- Packard

The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of EDS by Hewlett-Packard, both US-based companies active in the IT services sector. The Commission concluded that the concentration would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
