MIDDAY EXPRESSNews from the Communication Directorate General's midday briefingNouvelles du rendez-vous de midi de la Direction Générale Communicationb15/02/08[01] Commissioner Hübner launches regional programme for Yorkshire and The Humber (England)Danuta Hübner, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, today launches a seven-year development programme for the United Kingdom's Yorkshire and The Humber region. She attends the ceremony at the invitation of the regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, and will sign programme documents with John Healey MP, Minister of State in the Department for Communities and Local Government. She will also meet John Prescott MP, former British Deputy Prime Minister, to discuss the UK's application for European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) support following last year's disastrous floods.[02] Commission adopts 5th Report on Union CitizenshipToday the European Commission adopted its fifth report on citizenship of the European Union. These data are released by Eurostat.[06] Commission clears acquisition of NIS by KKRThe European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Northgate Information Solutions (NIS) of the UK by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, L.P. (KKR) of the US. KKR is a private equity investment company. NIS provides software, outsourcing and information technology services to the human resources, local government, education and public safety market sectors.
