[01] L'histoire vécue d'une discrimination remporte le 3ème Concours
européen de journalisme
L'émouvant récit de l'exploitation des travailleurs étrangers dans la
région italienne des Pouilles - une exploitation vécue de l'intérieur
par l’auteur – a remporté le premier prix du Concours européen
de journalisme "Pour la diversité – Contre la discrimination" cette
année. Les deuxième et troisième prix ont été décernés,
respectivement, à la Hongrie et à la Belgique, tandis que le prix spécial
"Jeunes journalistes" allait à un article finlandais. M. VladimÃr Å pidla,
commissaire européen à l'emploi, aux affaires sociales et à l'égalité
des chances, récompensera les gagnants lors d’une cérémonie qui se
tiendra aujourd'hui à Bruxelles. Le Concours européen de journalisme en
est à sa troisième année.
[02] Emissions trading : Commission adopts decision on Hungary's national
allocation plan for 2008-2012
The European Commission today concluded the assessment of Hungary's
national plan for allocating carbon dioxide (CO²) emission allowances for
the 2008-2012 trading period of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS).
The Commission accepted Hungary's national plan on condition that certain
changes are made, including a reduction in the total number of emission
allowances proposed. The cleared annual allocation is 26.9 million tonnes
of CO² allowances, 12.4% less than Hungary had proposed. Hungary's plan
covers additional emissions in sectors which did not report emissions in
2005 of roughly 1.4 million tonnes of CO². The Emissions Trading Scheme
ensures that greenhouse gas emissions from the energy and industry sectors
covered are cut at least cost to the economy, thus helping the EU and its
Member States to meet their emission commitments under the Kyoto Protocol.
[03] Cohesion policy 2007-2013 : Commission approves the national strategy
and priorities for Denmark
European Regional policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner and Employment and
social affairs Commissioner VladimÃr Å pidla congratulated the Danish
authorities on becoming the fourth Member State to reach agreement with the
European Commission on the national plan and priorities for Cohesion policy
2007-2013. In their National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) the
Danish authorities lay out how they intend to invest the EU funding of
€510 million that they will receive over seven years to deliver growth
and jobs to their regions.
[04] Commission clears acquisition of Dorint by Accor
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Dorint AG of Germany by
Accor SA of France. Accor is active in hotel management and other corporate
services. Dorint is active in hotel management. The operation was examined
under the simplified merger review procedure.
[05] Commission clears acquisition of CBR by EQT V Limited
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of CBR Holding GmbH (CBR) of
Germany by EQT V Limited of the Channel Islands, controlled by the group
Investor AB of Sweden. EQT V Limited manages private equity funds,
investing mainly in Northern Europe. CBR designs and sells women's
clothing. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review
procedure.
[06] Commission clears acquisition of Ogalas by Home Retail and Durinicum
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of joint control of Ogalas Limited of Ireland
by Home Retail Group plc (Home Retail) and Durinicum (Consultancy) Ltd
(Durinicum), both of the UK. Home Retail sells general merchandise, home
improvement and DIY products in the UK and Ireland under the "Homebase" and
"Argos" brands. Durinicum is active in construction, development and
regeneration. Ogalas sells products for the home in Ireland under the "Home
Store" & "More" brands. The operation was examined under the simplified
merger review procedure.
[07] Danuta Hübner in Cyprus to finalize negotiations on the country's
strategy for the implementation of new cohesion policy in the next years
European Regional policy Commissioner, Danuta Hübner, on her first
official visit to Cyprus, will meet President of the Republic Tassos
Papadopoulos. The Commissioner will stress the importance of Cyprus'
membership in the European Union and point out that the new European
cohesion policy will contribute to more growth and quality jobs in the
Cypriot economy. Commissioner Hübner will also meet Minister of Finance,
Michael Sarris, with whom she will discuss the government's priorities for
the policy implementation in 2007-2013. In Limassol the Commissioner
addresses a conference on SMEs organized by the Cyprus chamber of commerce
and industry. In Nicosia and Limassol she is visiting a number of European
projects in urban regeneration and transport.

Mme Benita Ferrero-Waldner, la commissaire européenne chargée des
relations extérieures et de la politique européenne de voisinage,
effectuera sa première visite officielle en Colombie les 16 et 17 avril
prochains afin de s'entretenir avec des membres importants du gouvernement
national et présenter la nouvelle stratégie de coopération de la
Commission européenne avec la Colombie. L'aide prévue pour la période
2007-2013 dépasse les €160 millions et sera principalement distribuée
par l'entremise d'initiatives en faveur de la paix et de la stabilité, y
compris le développement alternatif. La stratégie prévoit, en outre, une
nouvelle ligne de coopération économique visant à renforcer la
compétitivité du pays.

March 2007. These figures come from Eurostat.
[10] La Commission invite vivement la France et l'Espagne à trouver un
accord sur les modalités pour la pêche expérimentale d'anchois dans le
Golfe de Gascogne
La Commission européenne a exprimé ses inquiétudes sur le fait que
l'Espagne et la France ne sont pas encore parvenues à un accord sur la
manière de mettre en œuvre la pêche expérimentale d'anchois dans le
Golfe de Gascogne, décidée par le Conseil des Ministres de la Pêche en
décembre dernier. Ceci est particulièrement décevant étant donné les
efforts importants consentis par la Commission pour lancer, encourager et
faciliter les discussions entre les deux Etats membres au cours des
semaines passées. Ces discussions étaient basées sur l'avis du Comité
scientifique, technique et économique de la Pêche (CSTEP), sur la
manière dont cette pêche devait être effectuée. La Commission a
formulé des suggestions concrètes aux deux parties qui ont convenu qu'un
accord devait être conclu au plus tard le 12 avril étant donné que la
pêche devait commencer le 15 avril. Néanmoins, à ce jour, aucun accord
n'a été conclu. La Commission a envoyé une lettre aux deux parties pour
les inviter vivement à conclure un accord dès que possible de sorte que la
pêche puisse commencer comme prévu dans le règlement du Conseil de
décembre.
