[01] The European Commission has appointed a new Head of Representation in
Latvia
Ms Iveta Å ulca has been appointed as the new Head of the Representation of
the European Commission in Latvia. She takes up her duties on 1 August
2006.
[02] Commission clears acquisition of ABX by 3i
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of ABX LOGISTICS Worldwide
SA/NV and its subsidiaries (‘ABX’, Belgium) by 3i Group plc (‘3i’,
UK). 3i is a company that deals with investment and management advice. ABX
is active in the transport sector and focuses on road, air and sea freight
forwarding and contract logistics management. The operation was examined
under the simplified merger review procedure.
[03] Commission clears acquisition of Médica by BC Partners
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Médica SA (‘Médica’,
France) by BC Partners, UK. BC Partners deals with investment funds.
Médica has care homes for elderly people, rehabilitation centre and mental
health centre. The operation was examined under the simplified merger
review procedure.
[04] Commission clears acquisition of PBDS by Philips and BenQ
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of joint control of Philips & BenQ Digital
Storage Corporation (‘PBDS’, Taiwan) by Philips Electronics N.V.
(‘Philips’, Netherlands) and BenQ Corporation (‘BenQ’, Taiwan).
Philips deals with the design, the manufacture and the sale of broad range
of electronic products, including drives and media for CD and DVD. BenQ is
active in communications and multimedia devices. PBDS is a company in
charge of the development, manufacture and sale of optical data storage
drives (ODD) for personal computers. The operation was examined under the
simplified merger review procedure.
[05] June 2006 compared to May 2006 - Industrial producer prices up by 0.2%
in euro area - Up by 0.1% in EU25
The euro area industrial producer price index rose by 0.2% in June 2006
compared with the previous month, and EU25 prices increased by 0.1%. In May
prices increased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.1% in the EU25. In June
2006 compared to June 2005, industrial producer prices gained 5.8% in the
euro area and 6.4% in the EU25. These figures come from Eurostat.
