[01] President Barroso to attend EU – China Summit in Beijing on 5
September
President Barroso will represent the European Commission at the EU China
Summit in Beijing on 5 September, along with Commissioner for Employment
and Social Affairs, Vladimir Spidla and Commissioner for External Trade,
Peter Mandelson. The Chinese delegation will be led by Prime Minister Wen
Jiabao. A meeting of the European leaders with Chinese President Hu will
take place in the margins of the Summit.
[02] President Barroso to attend EU-India Summit in New Delhi on 7
September
The EU and India will hold their 6th Summit Meeting on 7 September 2005 in
New Delhi. The Summit is expected to endorse an ambitious and results-
oriented Action Plan as well as a Political Declaration signalling the
commitment of the EU and India to enhanced engagement on all issues of
mutual concern.
[03] Danuta Hübner visits the West Midlands
Danuta Hübner, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, today addresses
an extraordinary meeting of the EU Committee of the Regions in Birmingham
(UK). On Thursday evening and Friday morning, Commissioner Hübner visited
several EU-funded projects in Birmingham and Coventry.
[04] La Commission européenne renforce le dialogue avec la Chine dans les
domaines de l’emploi et des affaires sociales
L’UE et la Chine organiseront régulièrement des rencontres et des
échanges d’information sur des questions concernant l’emploi et les
affaires sociales dans le cadre d’un Protocole d’accord qui sera signé
lundi le 5 septembre 2005 au Sommet UE-Chine. Ce Protocole d’accord,
conclu entre la Commission européenne et le gouvernement chinois, fournira
le cadre d’un dialogue dans des domaines tels que la protection sociale,
la cohésion sociale, la législation du travail, l’emploi, les relations
de travail et le dialogue social. Chaque partie rendra visite à l’autre
au moins une fois par an, à Bruxelles et à Pékin alternativement.
[05] July 2005 compared to June 2005 - Industrial producer prices up by
0.5% in both euro-zone and EU25
The euro-zone industrial producer price index rose by 0.5% in July 2005
compared with the previous month. In July 2005, EU25 prices also grew by
0.5%. In June prices also increased by 0.5% in both the euro-zone and the
EU25. In July 2005 compared to July 2004, industrial producer prices grew
by 4.0% in the euro-zone and by 5.0% in the EU25. These figures come from
Eurostat.
[06] EU - China Summit and EU - India Summit - China second and India ninth
largest trade partner of EU25 2005
China and India play an increasing role in EU25 trade. China, which was the
fourth trading partner of the EU25 in 1999, has since 2003 become the
second trading partner after the USA. India, which was the 15th trading
partner of the EU25 in 1999, ranked 12th in 2004 and ninth in the first six
months of 2005. On the occasion of the EU - China summit, which will take
place on Monday 5 September in Beijing in China, and the EU - India summit,
which will take place on Wednesday 7 September in New Delhi in India,
Eurostat, issues the latest data available on trade between China and the
EU25 and India and the EU25.
[07] Commission clears acquisition of Staxera by Webasto and Starck
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of joint control of Staxera Holding GmbH &
Co. KG (Staxera) of Germany by Webasto AG (Webasto) and H.C. Starck GmbH
(Starck), both of Germany. Webasto produces roof and body systems, heaters
and air conditioning systems for cars. Starck is part of the Bayer group, a
global chemical and health care company, and produces ceramic and metal
powders and salts, as well as components for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC)
which convert fuel into energy. Under the proposed transaction, Webasto and
Starck will set up a 50/50% joint venture, Staxero. The operation was
examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
