[I] Résultats de la Commission de ce jour - Outcome
of today's Commission meeting
[01] Commission agrees five year Roadmap for Freedom Justice and Security
(! embargo 17h00 !) The European Commission has launched its five year
Action Plan for Freedom, Justice and Security - with detailed proposals for
EU action on terrorism, migration management, visa policies, asylum,
privacy and security, the fight against organised crime and criminal
justice. This is a major policy initiative and a cornerstone of the
Commission's Strategic Objectives for 2010 - built around prosperity,
solidarity and security.

[02] Commission provides €28.3 million in humanitarian aid to vulnerable
Palestinians
The European Commission has allocated €28.3 million in humanitarian aid
for one million Palestinians in the occupied territories and Lebanon. The
aid will provide food, water and sanitation services, employment
opportunities, health care, psychosocial support and protection for the
poorest Palestinians and those most affected by movement restrictions.
Assistance will be channelled through ECHO, the Commission's humanitarian
aid department.
[03] L'UE déploie une mission d'observation électorale au Liban en vue
des élections législatives
Suite un accord intervenu avec le gouvernement de la République
libanaise, la Commission européenne va déployer, cette semaine, une
mission d'observation électorale de l'Union européenne (MOE) l'occasion
des élections législatives au Liban, qui devraient se dérouler les 29
mai, 5, 12 et 19 juin. La Commission se félicite de la tenue d'élections
législatives véritablement démocratiques, qui permettront au Liban de
réaffirmer sa pleine souveraineté, conformément la résolution 1559 du
Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies. La MOE sera conduite par José
Ignacio Salafranca Sánchez-Neyra, membre du Parlement européen - membre
du comité des Affaires étrangères. La MOE est une nouvelle contribution
de la Commission au soutien de la démocratie au Moyen-Orient et dans la
région méditerranéenne.
[04] EU-China Ministerial Troika in Beijing to mark the 30th Anniversary of
EU-China Diplomatic Relations (11-12/05)
European Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner will visit Beijing on 11-12
May to participate in the EU-China Ministerial Troika, which will meet
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan and Chinese
Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Zhaoxing. Discussions will cover EU-China
bilateral relations including preparations for a new bilateral framework
agreement and trade issues ; as well as international and regional affairs
including Taiwan, North Korea, Burma/Myanmar and UN reform. The meetings
will take place in the broader context of the celebrations of the 30th
anniversary of EU-China diplomatic relations.
[05] Janez Potočnik to visit China to discuss Science and Technology
Cooperation
On 12 and 13 May, Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for Science and
Research will attend the China-EU High Level Forum on Science and
Technology Strategy in Beijing. He will also meet with the Chinese Minister
for Science and technology Xu Guanhua and take part in events to celebrate
30 years of diplomatic relations between the EU and China. He will take
part in the launch of CO-REACH, a network of European policy-makers and
programme managers involved in promoting research cooperation with China in
all fields of science, which aims to leads to great research cooperation
between EU and China. EU and China have a Science and Technology Agreement,
designed to encourage and increase scientific cooperation. The Forum will
discuss, among other things, how to make the most of this agreement, to
strengthen relations between China and the EU.
[06] A new website and €6 million for match-making to find right business
partner in the enlarged EU
A new website (<a href="http://eic.cec.eu.int/PES">http://eic.cec.eu.int/PES)
will facilitate the work of the Pan-European Business Cooperation Schemes
(PES). 4,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from over 20
different economic sectors are being brought together in 32 matchmaking
events at major international trade fairs over the next two years. This
will help generate new business opportunities for SMEs from new and old
Member States, candidate and neighbouring countries and strengthen both
economic and social ties. SMEs not only make up much of Europe's economy,
they have a crucial role to play in building bridges across borders within
Europe and beyond. The Commission allocated a total of €6 million to the
projects for the period September 2004 to September 2006.
