[01] La Journée mondiale du cœur : "L'obésité infantile pourrait être
à l'origine d'un désastre sanitaire dans l'avenir", a déclaré David
Byrne
David Byrne, le Commissaire européen responsable de la santé et de la
protection des consommateurs, a fortement cautionné le thème de la
Journée mondiale du cœur de 2004, qui se déroulera le dimanche 26
septembre et sera centrée sur le lien existant entre l'obésité infantile
et les maladies cardiaques. Les enfants en surcharge pondérale sont de
trois à cinq fois plus susceptibles que les enfants ayant un poids normal
d'être victimes d'une crise cardiaque ou d'une attaque d'apoplexie avant
d'avoir atteint l'âge de 65 ans.

regional transport and energy cooperation
Further to her visits to Syria and Lebanon in May 2004 and her visit to
Turkey in July, Loyola de Palacio, Vice-President of the European
Commission in charge of relations with the European Parliament, Transport
and Energy, is paying a visit to Jordan and Egypt on 23-27 September 2004
to underline the importance, in the framework of Euro-Mediterranean
cooperation and the European Neighbourhood Policy, of practical steps to
increase regional integration of energy and transport networks.
