[01] Crise au Darfour: la Commission débloque 20 millions d’euros
supplémentaires en faveur d’une aide humanitaire
La Commission européenne a affecté 20 millions d’euros en faveur
d’une aide humanitaire aux victimes de la crise qui sévit dans la
région du Darfour au Soudan. Cette nouvelle enveloppe contribuera Ã
fournir aux victimes un soutien alimentaire et nutritionnel, un abri,
l’accès à l’eau potable et aux installations sanitaires ainsi que des
soins d’urgence, et à offrir une protection aux civils vulnérables.
Cette aide sera acheminée par l’intermédiaire de l’Office humanitaire
de la Commission européenne (ECHO); le total de l’aide affectée par la
Commission à la crise du Darfour s’élèvera ainsi pour cette année Ã
104 millions d’euros.
[02] Commission Statement on Opening of Bystroye Canal in Ukraine
The European Commission deeply regrets the reported opening to navigation
of the initial part of the Bystroye canal between the River Danube and the
Black Sea. The canal route goes through a specially protected UNESCO World
Heritage area in the Danube Delta which is also subject to the
international Ramsar Convention on the protection of wetlands.
[03] Commission clears Asquith/ISIS nurseries joint venture
The European Commission has granted clearance, under the Merger Regulation,
to plans by Asquith Court Holdings Limited, controlled by German bank West
LB, and ISIS Equity Partners plc, controlled by Friends Provident plc (UK),
to create a joint venture, which will provide childcare services (the
operation, notified on July 26, was examined under a simplified procedure)
[04] Commission clears joint venture by Finnish utilities
The European Commission has granted clearance, under the Merger Regulation,
to plans by the Finnish gas and electricity utilities Helsingin Energia,
Vantaan Energia Oy, E.ON Finland Oy (controlled by E.ON AG of Germany) and
Lahti Energia Oy to integrate the latter company's relevant activities into
Suomen Energia-Urakointi Oy (“SEU”), a joint venture providing
construction and maintenance services for electricity and exterior lighting
networks.
