[02] Commission indicator forecasts euro area quarterly GDP growth of 0.3% to 0.7% for the 2nd and 0.4% to 0.8% for the 3rd quarter of 2004

The indicator-based model for quarterly GDP growth for the euro area, developed by the European Commission's Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs, forecasts a range of 0.3% to 0.7% for GDP growth in the second quarter of 2004, unchanged compared to the previous release. Given some improvement in the underlying data, the range for the third quarter is higher at 0.4-0.8%.

[04] Loyola de Palacio emphasises the importance of regional energy networks integration as a pillar for peace and stability

On 13-14 May, Loyola de Palacio, European Commission Vice-President in charge of energy and transport, visited Lebanon to meet with high level Government counterparts to discuss the development of the oil, gas, electricity and transport sectors.

[06] First Open Health Forum : Commissioners, stakeholders, MEPs and Member States' representatives to meet in Brussels on 17 May

On Monday 17 May, European Commissioners David Byrne and Pavel Telicka will meet with a wide range of representatives of health interest groups at a major conference on public health. The Commission is hosting its first Open Health Forum, organised together with health NGOs. Some 300 representatives of patient groups, health professionals, public health NGOs, trade unions, healthcare providers and health related industries from all over Europe will gather in Brussels for the event under the theme "Health in the enlarged Europe". Speakers will include Professor Antonios Trakatellis MEP, Ms Mel Read MEP, Ms Nata Menabde of the World Health Organisation, Ms Christine Hancock of the International Council of Nurses, senior EU and Member State officials and academic experts. The aim of the Open Forum is to promote the involvement of health experts and health stakeholders in EU policy making, and to encourage the exchange of ideas and experience. The Commission plans to make the Open Health Forum a regular event, possibly linked to an annual European Health Day. Further information, including the agenda of the forum, is available at: http://europa.eu.int/comm/health/ph_overview/health_forum/open_forum_en.htm
