phytopharmaceutiques. Ces 110 substances viennent s'ajouter aux 320 qui
doivent être retirées du marché en juillet 2003.
[02] Commission welcomes determination expressed by 30 Ministers to
accelerate eGovernment
Lucio Stanca, Italian Minister for Innovation and Technology, today issued
a ministerial declaration on behalf of the Italian Presidency, proposing
concrete measures to accelerate the move to eGovernment. The declaration
was agreed by the 30 EU, EFTA and accession countries Ministers attending
the second European conference on eGovernment 7 and 8 July. Ministers were
able to see for themselves the best of eGovernment practices already
implemented in Europe and the benefits these are bringing to all concerned.
As a result, they have jointly expressed their determination to further
accelerate exchanges of practical experiences, and proposed concrete
measures to be taken towards widespread deployment of eGovernment. This
declaration was the result of a ministerial meeting that took place within
the conference, in the presence of Erkki Liikanen Commissioner for
Enterprise and the Information Society. Ministers have specifically asked
the Presidency to present their declaration to the next meeting of the
Telecommunications and Information Society Council.
[04] Middle East : Commission grants €10 million in humanitarian aid for
Palestinians
The European Commission has approved a €10 million humanitarian aid package
to support victims of the crisis in the Palestinian Territories and
Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. The funds, allocated via the Commission's
Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO), which comes under the responsibility of
Commissioner Poul Nielson, will help meet the basic food, health, household,
water/sanitation and protection needs of vulnerable groups. The programme
will be implemented by ECHO's usual partners such as non-governmental
organisations and the International Committee of the Red Cross. ECHO has a
long-standing humanitarian commitment to vulnerable people in the Middle
East. With this latest funding decision, its support for victims of the
ongoing crisis since the start of the second Intifada in September 2000 has
now topped €100 million.
