  • [02] Milestone in EU-Egypt relations : signature of new Association Agreement Today in Luxembourg the EU and Egypt will sign the Association Agreement between the EU and the Arab Republic of Egypt, paving the way for a new era in bilateral relations. It also markes a turning point in the building of a network of Association Agreements, consolidating the Euro-Mediterranean partnership launched by the 1995 Barcelona conference. The signature of this Agreement is an important sign of Egypt's commitment to its ambitious programme of economic and social reform and of the EU's commitment to assist in this endeavour. It also constitutes a positive message to international investors on the opportunities for direct foreign investment in Egypt.
  • [03] Commission initiates detailed probe into CVC's acquisition of Austrian fibre company Lenzing The European Commission has decided to start a detailed second-stage investigation into the planned acquisition by CVC Capital Partners Group Ltd (CVC) of Lenzing AG, an Austrian company which makes man-made fibres. Since CVC already controls Acordis, a company active in the same sector, the Commission's initial investigation has identified a number of markets where the merger would raise serious concerns.

These restrictions apply now in the autonomous region of Cataluña (with exception of the province Gerona), the province of Castellón and a part of the province of Huesca. The proposal will be adopted by the Commission in the next days and shall apply until 15 July.
