  • [01] Commission unveils its route map for reform, sets up Task Force for Administrative Reform and launches proposals to modernise industrial relations

A Task force for Administative Reform (TFAR) has been set up to steer the reform process in the European Commission. Supported by a reform group of Commissioners, chaired by Vice-President Neil Kinnock, it will both define the reform strategy and oversee the implementation of agreed measures. To ensure that the reform is supported by staff, the Commission is tabling a series of proposals aimed at modernising the framework for industrial relations.

[04] Commission approves merger in temporary employment services sector

The European Commission has approved the operation by which the Dutch company Vedior N.V. will acquire sole control of the UK company Select Appointments plc. The operation mainly regards the sector of the provision of temporary employment services. Overlaps between the companies' activities are limited to Belgium and France and are too small to have a bearing on the competitive structure of the market.

[05] Commission acts against Luxembourg, Sweden and Ireland for failing to comply with EU health and safety laws

The European Commission has decided to issue reasoned opinions against Luxembourg, Sweden and Ireland on the basis of Article 226 of the EC Treaty for failing to comply with EU health and safety Directives.
