[01] Commission clears TPG's (USA) take-over of Bally (Switzerland)
The European Commission has authorised the acquisition by the American
investment company Texas Pacific Group Partners II (TPG) of the Swiss
company Bally International AG. Bally is a well-known manufacturer of high-
fashion items such as clothes, shoes and accessories, but TPG has no
activities in these sectors in the European Union.
[02] Commission opens full investigation into the acquisition of AGA
(Sweden) by Linde (Germany) in the industrial gases industry
The European Commission has decided to open a full investigation into the
proposed acquisition of AGA AB, Sweden, by the German company Linde
Aktiengesellschaft in the industrial gases industry. The operation is
considered in the context of an on-going global consolidation in the
industrial gases industry. Areas of concern are, amongst others, the strong
position Linde will obtain in Germany, the Netherlands and Austria.
[03] L'Union européenne aide ses voisins de l'Est à combattre la
criminalité
La Commission européenne va lancer un programme de 4,5 millions d'euros
pour aider les pays d'Europe centrale et orientale à combattre le trafic de
drogue, le blanchiment d'argent, le vol de voitures et autres crimes et
délits. La Commission se joindra à l'Association des écoles de police
européennes aujourd'hui à Budapest pour présenter ce projet visant à
améliorer le niveau de la formation policière dans ces pays. L'exercice de
la police dans le respect de l'état de droit, des droits de l'homme et de
la protection des minorités est un élément essentiel de l'objectif visé par
l'Union européenne, qui consiste à instaurer une zone de liberté, de
sécurité et de justice
