    [02] European Works Councils

The European social partners (ETUC, UNICE, CEEP) are organising with the support of the European Commission a major conference on European Works Councils (EWC's) on 28-30 April 1999 in Brussels, Charlemagne building. The aim of the conference is to take stock of the practical implementation of the EWC's Directive four and a half years after its adoption by the Council of Ministers. Some 500 participants will attend. The great majority of them are members of EWC's and managers from individual European companies. A press conference will take place on 28 April 1999, at 16.00 hrs, in the Charlemagne building. The participants will be representatives of the social partners and Padraig Flynn, Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner.
