[01] Commission authorises the acquisition of Hüls Styrene Business by BP
The European Commission has approved the operation by which BP acquires the
styrene activities of Hüls AG. The business acquired concerns the
production and sale of styrene and two products derived from styrene,
polystyrene and expanded polystyrene). With the operation BP will increase
its market shares in these markets. However, in none of the markets BP
will become the market leader and there is sufficient competition from
other strong competitors a.o. DOW, BASF, Atochem, Enichem and Shell with
equal or larger market shares.
