Résultats de la Commission du 16 septembre -
Outcome of Commission's meeting of 16 September
[01] The Commission sets up a Business Environment Simplification Task
Force (BEST)
On the initiative of Christos Papoutsis, European Commissioner responsible
for Small businesses, in agreement with President Jacques Santer, the
Commission has today named the members and the Chairman of the Business
Environment Simplification Task Force to be known as the BEST Task Force.
The aim of the Task Force is to see how we can improve the environment of
businesses by simplifying the regulatory and administrative burdens which
businesses, particularly small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), have to
bear with a view to increasing their job creation potential. The BEST Task
Force will be chaired by Prof. Chris Evans, from the United Kingdom, one of
Europe's leading biotechnology entrepreneurs and founder of a seed
investment company.
[02] Commission closes proceedings against State aid to Gemeinnützige
Abfallverwertung GmbH
The European Commission has decided today to close proceedings against aid
which was awarded to Gemeinnützige Abfallverwertung GmbH (GAV) in Aachen.
GAV is a non-profit oriented enterprise owned by Sozialwerk Aachener
Christen e.V.. It is acting in the waste market by collecting both
household and company recyclable waste, sorting it out and selling it as
secondary raw material. In this sector, GAV competes with profit making
private enterprises which alleged that GAV was acting aggressively on the
market. The Commission concluded that GAV was not acting aggressively and
that the arguments in favour of the aid outweighed the disadvantages for
the internal market.
