[01] Inventions biotechnologiques - La Commission modifie sa proposition
suite à l'avis du Parlement européen
La Commission européenne vient d'adopter une proposition modifiée de
directive relative à la protection juridique des inventions biotechnologiques
pour prendre en compte les amendements adoptés par le Parlement européen le
16 juillet 1997. Comme annoncé par Mario MONTI, commissaire au Marché
unique lors du débat en plénière, la Commission reprend 65 des 66
amendements votés par le Parlement européen, notamment tous ceux ayant
trait à la dimension éthique des inventions biotechnologiques. Maintenant
le clonage humain est explicitement interdit, de même que toute
intervention dans l'identité génétique germinale. Un comité indépendant
sera chargé d'évaluer tous les aspects éthiques de la biotechnologie dès
l'adoption de la directive.
[02] Joaquín Cortés hosts dance workshop for the European Year Against
Racism
Joaquín Cortés, the world renowned Spanish flamenco dancer, will hold today
in Madrid a unique dance workshop for young dancers to mark the European
Year Against Racism. The class will bring students from nearly every
country in the European Union to Madrid. The aim of the workshop is to show
that young people with shared interests, but from different backgrounds and
cultures can work together on a concrete project with tangible results.
Padraig Flynn, European Commissioner with responsibility for Employment and
Social Affairs, said, "I am delighted that Joaquín Cortés is lending his
outstanding talents towards supporting the European Year Against Racism."
