[01] Commission approves the acquisition of joint control of EBJS European
Business Jet Services by Lufthansa Cityline and Bombardier
The European Commission has approved the intention of Bombardier
International B.V., Amsterdam, to acquire a 50% share in a subsidiary of
Lufthansa CityLine GmbH, Kriftel/D. The joint venture will have the
company name of EBJS European Business Jet Services GmbH. It will sell
aircraft flights supplied by independent owners or operators of executive
jet aircraft on a commission basis to third parties. The proposed
operation affects the market for broker services regarding journeys by air
with chartered executive jet aircraft. As EBJS has not supplied broker
services in the past the proposed operation will not lead to any addition
of market shares in the affected relevant product market. The Commission
has decided not to oppose the notified concentration and to declare it
compatible with the common market and with the functioning of the EEA
Agreement.
[02] La Commission autorise l'acquisition du contrôle unique de Comercial
de Laminados par Klöckner Stahl- und Metallhandel
Conformément au règlement sur les fusions, la Commission européenne a
approuvé une opération par laquelle Klöckner Iberica SL, une filiale de
Klöckner Stahl - und Metallhandel (KSM), elle-même filiale du Groupe VIAG,
prend le contrôle unique de Comercial de Laminados en acquérant des actions
appartenant à trois familles qui possèdent directement ou indirectement 94,
8% des parts. Klöckner Iberica fera une offre publique pour le restant des
actions. Les deux sociétés Comercial de Laminados et KSM distribuent de
l'acier et des métaux non-ferreux. La plupart des ventes de Comercial de
Laminados sont effectuées en Espagne et au Portugal et les effets de cette
opération se sentiront surtout sur ces deux marchés où les parts du marché
ne dépasseront pas 5% dans chaque catégorie de produit. L'opération
proposée ne devrait pas créer ou renforcer une position dominante.
[03] Yves-Thibault de Silguy: "La convergence économique progresse
fortement"
!!! embargo 21h !!! "La convergence des économies n'est plus un voeu,
elle est devenue une réalité", a notamment déclaré Yves-Thibault de Silguy,
Commissaire européen chargé des Affaires économiques, monétaires et
financières, lors du Forum européen d'Alpbach. "Une majorité d'Etats
membres devront donc être en mesure de remplir les conditions prévues par
le traité pour accéder à l'euro. (...) Le respect des valeurs de référence
pour la seule année 1997 n'est pas une condition suffisante pour passer à
l'euro. La Commission s'assurera ... du caractère durable des performances
obtenues en matière d'assainissement des finances publiques. (...)
L'amélioration globale de l'environnement économique se traduit par une
accélération de la croissance en Europe. Ceci dynamisera les rentrées
fiscales et facilitera, en conséquence, la poursuite de l'effort
d'assainissement." !!! embargo 21h !!!
[04] Hans van den Broek to stress importance of EU-Russian relations during
visit to Moscow andSt. Petersburg (28-31 August 1997)
Hans van den Broek, Commissioner responsible i.a. for relations with Russia,
will visit Moscow and St. Petersburg in follow-up to the visit to the
European Commission by Prime Minister Chernomyrdin on 18 July 1997. This
will provide an opportunity to discuss in depth the various subjects raised
at that time and focus on areas of closer cooperation. "The European Union
(EU) is Russia's main trading partner and the single largest donor. Russia
is a vital partner for the EU because of our joint role in promoting
stability and prosperity in Europe", commented Mr van den Broek. "On the
threshold of the entering into force of the Partnership and Cooperation
Agreement, our joint activities are widening far beyond the scope of mere
trade issues." Special attention will be paid to President Yeltsin's
request to train young Russian managers in EU enterprises. In response,
the Commission has worked out a detailed proposal that Mr van den Broek
will present to his counterparts. For the prelude to the celebrations of
the 850th anniversary of the city of Moscow, Mr van den Broek will open a
special concert by the European Youth Orchestra. In St. Petersburg, he
will meet with regional leaders and visit the successful Tacis project
which has trained thousands of former Red Army officers to become business
managers.
