[01] Commission authorises the formation of a joint venture between Thyssen
Stahl AG and Krupp Hoesch Stahl AG in the flat steel products sector
pursuant to the EC Merger Regulation
The European Commission has declared the proposed formation of a joint
venture between Thyssen Stahl AG and Krupp Hoesch Stahl AG in the flat
steel products sector pursuant to article 6(1)(b) of the EC Merger
Regulation. The decision covers all products and activities of the planned
joint venture which do not fall under the ECSC Treaty. Among these
products are in particular cold rolled flat steel products less than 500 mm
in width as well as tailored blanks for the automobile industry. The
Commission already approved the proposed operation pursuant to Article
66(2) of the ECSC Treaty on 28 July 1997.
[02] Commission approves the acquisition of Tandem Computers by Compaq
The European Commission has given clearance under the Merger Regulation to
the acquisition by Compaq Computer Corporation Inc. of the whole of Tandem
Computers Inc. The Commission found that the overlaps between the two
companies' activities, which were limited to the field of the cheaper range
of servers, were not such as to give rise to competition concerns. Compaq
Computers Corporation Inc. (US) is one of the world's largest suppliers of
computing products, offering Internet and typical enterprise computing
solutions, networking products, commercial PC products, and consumer PC's.
Tandem Computers Inc. is a US-based supplier of highly specialised, fault-
tolerant, highly available, parallel processing systems for business-
critical operations in banks, stock exchange, telecommunications, etc.
[03] Grèce: 130 millions d'Ecus de subventions du Fonds de Cohésion pour
des projets dans les domaines de l'environnement et des infrastructures de
transport
La Commission européenne a approuvé l'octroi de 56 millions d'Ecus du Fonds
de Cohésion pour des projets dans le domaine de l'environnement et 74
millions d'Ecus pour des projets dans le domaine des infrastructures de
transport en Grèce. Les projets subventionnés dans le domaine de
l'environnement ont un coût global éligible de 67,6 millions d'Ecus et
reçoivent des aides de 80 ou de 85% du Fonds de Cohésion, soit 55,6
millions d'Ecus. Les projets approuvés sont les suivants: adduction d'eau,
évacuation des eaux usées et station de traitement biologique de Ptolemaida,
réseau d'adduction d'eau et aqueduc extérieur de Yannitsa, réhabilitation
de la décharge de déchets solides d'Ano Liossia, travaux de protection
côtière dans les côtes basses de Thessalonique, Khalastra et Kalochorio,
augmentation de la capacité de l'aqueduc de Mornos et approvisionnement en
eau de la ville d'Ioannina. Les projets approuvés dans le domaine des
transports, recevant 74 millions d'Ecus du Fonds de Cohésion, soit 85% de
leur coût total éligible, estimé à 87,1 millions d'Ecus, sont les suivants:
Ring de Patras et divers tronçons de la Via Egnatia.
