[01] Beef crisis plans attacked
BRUSSELS - European farm ministers attacked proposals on Monday to pay grain
farmers less so beef farmers can get more to help them cope with the mad cow
crisis.

HELSINKI - Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen on Monday indicated a decision to
link the Finnish markka to the Exchange Rate Mechanism was drawing near and
the central parity exchange rate would be on the firm side.

BONN - Germany, deriding "waverers, hesitators and delayers", said on Monday
that there would be no easing in the entry rules for Economic and Monetary
Union and the single currency would be launched on schedule in 1999.

SARAJEVO - The leading Moslem and Serb candidates for a new collective Bosnian
presidency were well ahead of their rivals according to early results in the
country's first post-war elections, organisers said on Monday.
