    LUXEMBOURG - Britain's European Union partners rounded on it angrily on Monday for blocking EU decisions but said progress towards solving the "beef war" was still possible before next week's European Council.

    BERLIN - German Health Minister Horst Seehofer said on Monday that Germany would consider taking legal proceedings against the European Commission after it agreed last week to lift a ban on exports of some British beef products.

    LONDON - British farmers could face jail if they fail to get rid of banned cattle feed believed to be a cause of mad cow disease, the government announced on Monday.

    PARIS - Britain has dropped its demand for a firm date for an end to the European Union's worldwide ban on British beef exports imposed to stem the spread of mad cow disease, French officials said on Monday.
